Ruling Georgian Dream Party Wins the Elections, Preliminary Results Say

Based on the early data obtained from 2,206 polls, “Georgian Dream” gained 935,004 votes, he said. Among the opposition parties, the Coalition for Change led with 11.2 percent of the vote, followed by the United National Movement with 9.8 percent, Strong Georgia with 9.0 percent, and Gakharia for Georgia with 8.2 percent.

“For the first time, we used special voter verification equipment and can confidently say that the elections were held successfully,” Kalandarishvili said, noting that the elections were held in a peaceful and free atmosphere.

On Sunday, however, 20 candidates from the pro-European opposition bloc Coalition for Change resigned their parliamentary seats in protest over the results of Saturday’s parliamentary elections.

“The elections were rigged, and the results are illegitimate. We do not want to legitimize them with votes stolen from the people of Georgia, so we renounce our mandates,” declared the party’s lead candidate, Nana Malashjia.

The situation is a repeat of the 2020 parliamentary elections, also rejected by the opposition, which boycotted parliamentary work and organized massive protests outside the legislature, some of which turned violent.

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the secretary of the Georgian Dream party, suggested that the entire opposition stay out of Parliament. “Then, Parliament will have a good working environment, without sabotage. Let them withdraw all their lists from the Central Electoral Commission, and we will work,” he said.
