Following the election of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as President of Namibia, several international leaders have joined in congratulating her, underlining the importance of this historic event not only for Namibia but also for the nation’s cooperation with allied countries and the well-being of the African region.
Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro congratulated Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on her victory and conveyed his desire to strengthen “friendship in defense of sovereignty” on Tuesday.
“I congratulate the brotherly people of Namibia on the outcome of the general elections of November 27, where the historic party of their independence, the South-West African People’s Organization (SWAPO), won a popular victory,” the president said in a message posted on Telegram. President Maduro also expressed his desire to work with the newly elected Namibian President in “building a multicenter and multipolar world.”
These congratulations were echoed by the Republic of Nicaragua, which sent a warm message expressing: “From our blessed and always free Nicaragua, we greet you with the respect and recognition of our people, families, and brave Nicaraguan women, whom we admire in you as the first Companion who reaches the leadership of State in that brother country.”
They also wished her great success in her candidacy and in achieving her presidential goals, pointing out the undoubted closeness of their relationship by sharing the same ideals in the struggle for peace and human rights worldwide.
The Cuban government also expressed its congratulations. In a message posted on his X account, President Díaz-Canel congratulated President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, highlighting her status as “the first woman elected to lead the sister nation.” He also took the opportunity to reaffirm “the commitment of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.”
