Global Women’s March in Brazil Highlights the Strength of Feminism

The document highlights the struggle for greater representation in institutional politics and influence on immediate ones.

The importance of feminism as a daily construction and the diversity of the movement was highlighted in the statement issued at the 3rd National Meeting of the World March of Women (WMW), “Nalu Faria”, held in Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, in Brazil from 6 to 9 July.

«We are organized in a popular feminism that is strong because it is built day by day with a political agenda that organizes and mobilizes us, a feminism in which we all fit», the text includes.

It also highlights the importance of feminism in the resistance to fascism and the construction of socialism, with emphasis on the confrontation with Bolsonarism and the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the 2022 elections.

In that sense, they recalled that the organized feminist force is capable of imposing defeats on the extreme right, such as the recent mobilizations that interrupted the processing of the Abortion Bill.

«We want to change the world by changing women’s lives and our strategy for this is self-organization in every place where we live, work and operate», reflects the document of the movement that includes rural and city workers, black, lesbian and bisexual, young, transgender, quilombola, indigenous, trade unionist, elderly and persons with disabilities.

More than a thousand feminists from 24 states participated in the event under the slogan «Overthrow this system with force and rebellion, organize women without losing the audacity: dream and fight like Nalu Faria»who played an essential role in articulating women’s rights in Brazil and died in 2023.
