Local media indicated that “the Acropolis of Athens will be closed at central times [12H00 and 17H00 (local time)] and classes have been cancelled in several areas of the country”.

For its part, the Meteorological Service of Greece (EMY, for its acronym in Greek) has pointed out on its official website that “the temperature will fluctuate at very high levels».

The figures will reach, according to the agency, “37 to 39 degrees in the northern continental regions and 40 degrees Celsius in central Macedonia”.

“In western Sterea and western Peloponnese from 38 to 40 degrees. In Thessaly, eastern Esterea and eastern Peloponnese, between 41 and 42 degrees and, in some places, 43 degrees Celsius,” the forecast adds.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security recommended telework and not outdoor work when temperatures of 38 degrees or more are expected. This, focused on avoiding heat shock.

The measures taken by the Greek authorities include the establishment of air-conditioned areas and the provision of a special medical service.
