Haiti: Anti-gang Operations Continue in Capital

Gang members have already attacked the port, schools, police stations, prisons, ministries, bank branches, community stores, the National Printing House, which was first published in 1804, and set fire to a 96,000 square meter warehouse in the free zone.

On Thursday., the Haitian National Police and members of the armed forces are continuing operations today to contain the fury of the gangs that are terrorizing the population.

Since Monday, criminal gangs have been giving the law enforcement authorities no respite. In the last few hours, they had to defend the National Police Academy from an attack by a group called Kraze Barye.

The confrontation was intense, but the criminals, led by Vitelhomme Inocent, found it impossible to seize the premises in the face of the resistance of the agents.

The Haiti Libre newspaper’s website recalled that a group of thugs attacked and vandalized the Citizen Protection Office in the Haitian capital. The office is used for mediation and legal disclosure procedures.

They also attacked private cars, a religious seminary, the first Baptist Church in Haiti, founded more than 180 years ago, and more than a dozen pharmacies.

In April this year, in a demonstration that they mean business, they burned down the house of the then commander-in-chief of the Haitian National Police, Frantz Elbé.

Now their record is even more notorious when they opened fire on a US Spirit Airlines aircraft in the middle of a landing maneuvers, which ended up in the Dominican Republic with an injured flight attendant.

Following the attack, an inspection of aircraft flying to Port-au-Prince was carried out, and it was discovered that the bandits had already punctured a Jet Blue and an American Airlines aircraft.
