On the Jamaican side, a contingent of about 20 military personnel and four police arrived at the Toussaint Louverture international airport in the Haitian capital today, six months after that country announced its support for the multinational mission.

These troops are part of the total 200 that the Government of Jamaica has committed to send to Haiti and which will provide command, planning and logistical support for the deployment of the force.

Two Belizean soldiers also arrived in Port-au-Prince today on a flight organized by the United States as part of the multinational mission, an operation with UN approval and expected to include at least 2,500 military and police personnel.

Its deployment in Haiti will be phased in gradually, and by the end of September it is expected that countries such as the Bahamas, Barbados, Bangladesh, Chad, Benin and Belize will send troops to the country.

Almost three months after the arrival of the Kenyan police, the security situation in Haiti has not improved significantly.

In the first half of 2024, victims of violence were already almost 3,900, according to a report by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH).
