According to a UN source, the aircraft took off from Port-au-Prince and landed safely back in the capital.

The attack followed the reopening of the Toussaint-Louverture international airport, after a months-long closure due to the humanitarian and internal security crisis in the country.

In Haiti, violence has increased significantly, with several clashes this week in Arcahaie, a commune in the western department, forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.

Agents from specialized units of the Haitian National Police have assured that in these areas targeted operations are being carried out to counter the actions of criminal gangs which seek to terrorize the population.

On the other hand, according to a UN report, half of the Haitians, about 5.4 million people, are in a situation of acute famine.

Data from the Integrated Phased Classification of Acute Malnutrition (IPC) warns that more than two million Haitians face levels of emergency hunger.

The survey also found that three out of four internally displaced persons are food insecure.
