A coalition of gangs called Viv Ansanm, apparently taking precautions ahead of the arrival of foreign troops in the second half of June, made headlines by killing 12 people and injuring several citizens.

Police-supporting villagers were marching alongside an armored car on 11 June and when they least expected it, a hail of automatic weapons fire left a bloodbath in the village of Delmas 24.

Those neighbors who had come out from the Sorino area went alongside the officers with sticks, stones and bottles.

Nothing happened to the armored car of the Haitian National Police, and the crew escaped unharmed from the close fire of the thugs, commented the digital newspaper Le Facteur Haiti.

Earlier, the Haitian National Police Union officially reported that three officers from a specialized commando were killed and a fourth injured in a gang ambush.

The members of the Temporary Anti-Gang Unit were carrying out routine surveillance when they were attacked by a criminal gang, who had previously dug a hole for the armored vehicle to fall into, which was looted and set on fire.

The incident occurred in the area of Delmas 18, and in addition to the fallen agents, a fourth was wounded in the exchange of fire with the thugs.

Jimmy Chérizier, alias Barbecue, claimed responsibility for this attack on his territory.

Barbecue’s men seized the assault rifles, magazines and ammunition of the dead officers.

These bloody events took place precisely in the week in which the ministerial team was announced and officially took office the day before.
