Nearly three thousand citizens were deported between 5 and 6 October without any respect for these provisions, and many of them were left without their personal belongings or identity documents.
On Wednesday, the Haitian Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) denounced the irregularities committed by the Dominican Republic in a massive expulsion plan it is carrying out today against the citizens of this Caribbean nation.

These include the flagrant violation of the protocol of agreement on repatriations signed in 1999, which prohibits night-time expulsions and requires the prior communication of the lists of these persons to the Haitian authorities.
“Despite this, nearly three thousand citizens were deported between 5 and 6 October without any respect for these provisions, and many of them were left without their personal belongings or identity documents,” adds the CPT in its communiqué published by the daily Le National.
‘In addition, there were reports of physical abuse, trauma and unaccompanied minors. Even Haitian consular representatives were banned from entering the temporary detention centers,’ the text underlines.
In this context, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture pointed out that the Dominican Republic disrespected several international conventions, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
The CPT’s indignation comes against the backdrop of Dominican President Luis Rodolfo Abinader’s decision to repatriate 10,000 Haitians a week on a massive scale, to reach the figure of 500,000.
