A delegation from the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas arrived in the Egyptian capital this Friday to participate in discussions regarding the terms of the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Egypt is holding intense talks with Hamas leaders, along with mediators from the United States and Qatar, to maintain the implementation of the ceasefire and initiate the second phase of the agreement, according to a statement from the Egyptian State Information Service.
On January 19, 2025, a three-stage ceasefire agreement in Gaza was implemented between Israel and Hamas, through mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Talks for the second phase of the agreement were halted after the initial 42-day stage ended on March 1.
Egypt has intensified its diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and make progress in the restoration of the Strip. On Tuesday, Egypt hosted an emergency Arab summit and proposed a $53 billion Gaza reconstruction plan that does not require displacement.
However, the plan requires a permanent cessation of fire in the strip to encourage funding and investments for its implementation.
