The delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, aims to establish a solid agreement that ensures a permanent ceasefire and alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people.
In a statement issued this Sunday, Dr. Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas’s Political Bureau, emphasized that the talks will also address the creation of a community support committee.
This body, which has Palestinian, Arab, and international backing, will be responsible for managing governmental affairs and preparing the necessary conditions for reconstruction and unification between Gaza and the West Bank. “The movement is willing to consider any serious proposal that ends the war and guarantees the withdrawal of enemy forces,” Naim stated.
The meetings in Cairo include mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, who are seeking to overcome obstacles that have hindered previous agreements.
Among the proposals discussed are prisoner exchanges and the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for detained Palestinians. However, sources close to the negotiations indicate that key differences persist, such as the Israeli military presence in certain strategic corridors.
On another note, Hamas reiterated its rejection of proposals it deems unacceptable for favoring exclusively Israeli interests. The movement insists that any agreement must include clear guarantees for the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and an end to the siege on Gaza.
Additionally, it underscores the need for more effective international pressure on Israel to stop aggressions and allow unrestricted access to humanitarian aid. “The enemy will not see us broken nor fall into the trap of turning this entire process into a mere prisoner exchange, only to resume aggression and massacre,” Naim stated in his message.
