The Islamist group Hamas handed over four bodies, allegedly of Israeli hostages, to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip at midnight on Thursday.

This gesture, carried out without ceremony, was conducted in accordance with an agreement reached with Israel and was reported by the Qatari network Al Jazeera, as well as confirmed by Israeli security sources.

The bodies delivered are those of Itzik Elgarat, 70; Ohad Yahalomi, 50; Shlomo Mansur, 85; and Tsahi Idan, 50. This exchange took place after five days of intense negotiations mediated by Egypt, which has played a crucial role in ceasefire talks in the region.

The handover procedure was supervised by Egyptian representatives, who are working to ensure that Israel receives the bodies and, in return, releases Palestinian prisoners.

According to Naim, a spokesperson for the group, a total of 43 prisoners are expected to be released to Ramallah and Jerusalem as part of the agreement. However, the release of the remaining prisoners will be conditional on the identification of the hostages’ bodies.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has indicated that the identification of the bodies will take place at the Kerem Shalom border crossing, located in the southeastern tip of Gaza. Subsequently, they will be transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv to determine the causes of death.

This exchange represents a delicate moment in a context marked by prolonged tensions and conflicts.
