Hamas Announces Release of Three Hostages Under Ceasefire Agreement
In a significant turn of events in the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the military spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubeida, has announced the postponement of the handover of Israeli prisoners scheduled for this Saturday.
In a statement issued today, Ubeida stated that the decision is due to what he described as “violations by the enemy” and the failure to comply with previously agreed terms.
Over the past three weeks, Hamas forces have been monitoring what they consider acts of aggression by Israel. Ubeida cited several examples justifying this measure, including delays in the return of displaced persons to the northern Gaza Strip, as well as ongoing attacks and bombings in various areas of the enclave.
Additionally, he mentioned the lack of entry of humanitarian aid in various forms, despite Hamas claiming to have fulfilled its obligations under the agreement.
This announcement adds a new layer of tension to an already critical situation in the region, where hostilities have left thousands of people in desperate conditions. Hamas’s decision to postpone the handover of hostages could further complicate international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and restore peace in the area.
Reactions both within and outside the conflict remain to be seen, as international actors continue to seek solutions to this prolonged humanitarian crisis.
