The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, strongly rejected the recent appointment of a vice president by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), describing it as a unilateral decision lacking national consensus.

In a statement, Hamas accused the PLO leadership of succumbing to external pressures and reinforcing exclusionary policies that undermine efforts to unify Palestinian society around the national cause.

The movement emphasized that the PLO leadership persists in maintaining its institutions paralyzed and ineffective, preventing them from fulfilling their role of uniting Palestinian forces against occupation and settlement expansion.

Hamas reiterated that the immediate priority must be ending the aggression, war, and famine devastating the Palestinian territories, rather than distributing political positions based on foreign interests.

The creation of the vice presidency, announced by the PLO’s Central Council on April 24, has triggered widespread criticism among Palestinian factions. Many resistance groups boycotted the session, denouncing it as undemocratic and accusing the PLO of deepening divisions instead of fostering national unity.

The internal crisis within the Palestinian leadership unfolds amid a severe humanitarian emergency and growing international pressure to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
