The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, welcomed the Arab Summit’s outcome, considering the leaders’ positions positive regarding the Palestinian cause. In a statement released on Tuesday night, the resistance group members claimed the extraordinary meeting “marks an advanced stage of Arab and Islamic alignment with the just Palestinian cause.”
They emphasized that the summit’s call for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, as signed in January, puts pressure on the State of Israel, which aims to undermine the accord.
Hamas appreciated Egypt’s efforts in organizing an international summit for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and endorsed the reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab Summit in its final declaration. They requested that all elements necessary for its success be ensured.
Hamas reaffirmed its support for plans that serve the interests of the Palestinian people and end Israeli extermination and its implications. “We have declared our support for the decision to form the Community Support Committee to oversee the aid and reconstruction file and manage Gaza as an integral part of the Palestinian State,” they stated.
They reiterated the need to pressure Israel to comply with its obligations under the January agreement, which calls for the complete withdrawal of the Zionist army from Gaza. They praised the summit’s call for a commercial and political boycott of the Zionist entity to isolate it and compel it to adhere to international law.
Hamas applauded the leaders’ stances, rejecting plans to occupy and displace the Palestinian people, annexation projects, and settlement expansion, while supporting the Palestinians’ legitimate rights to freedom and self-determination.
In a note preceding the statement, Hamas emphasized that all factions and the Palestinian Authority must be consulted before agreeing to any deployment of international forces in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian movement asserted that with a united and firm Arab position against Zionism, their people could thwart all conspiracies and attempts to erase their historical rights to the lands they inhabit and those occupied by Israelis. They highlighted the intention to build Palestinian national institutions that carry out the will of the Palestinian liberation.
Egypt has proposed a $53 billion plan for the reconstruction of Gaza over five years, focusing on emergency assistance, infrastructure recovery, and long-term economic growth.
The proposal opposes the plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, who aims to “take control” of Gaza with the goal of rebuilding it and establishing a tourist enclave in the area, displacing its Palestinian population to neighboring countries.
Egyptian and Jordanian officials firmly resisted this displacement plan and emphasized that under no circumstances would they allow any Palestinian refugees to settle in their nations.
The Arab League meeting on Tuesday, March 4, took place at a time when Israel has chosen to block the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, representing the first step towards implementing Trump’s plan, according to Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s statement on Monday.
