The campaign of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has forecasted “incredibly tight” elections and urged the public to remain calm during the vote counting process, which could delay final results for several days.

In a call with reporters, Jen O’Malley Dillon, Harris’s campaign manager, highlighted that the Democratic team expects to obtain “nearly complete” results in some jurisdictions on election night. Key states among these include Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan.

However, results from Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada are anticipated to take until after Wednesday. “We believe this race will be extremely close, so it is possible we may not have final results for several days,” O’Malley emphasized, adding that “our focus is on maintaining calm and confidence during this period.”

The campaign also warned about the possibility that former President Donald Trump might exploit this uncertainty to allege election fraud, spread misinformation, and “proclaim a premature victory.” Dana Remus, legal advisor to Harris’s team, stated: “These actions will fail because it will be the voters, not Trump, who choose their next president.”

The advisors expressed their confidence in the U.S. electoral system, assuring that these elections will be “the safest in the country’s history.” Nevertheless, they have also deployed hundreds of lawyers across the country to address potential lawsuits from the Republican team questioning the counting or results in various regions.

“It will not be a quick process, but the facts are on our side (…) we will not allow Trump to discredit the elections or the institutions with his constant attempts to create chaos and doubt,” Remus underscored.

During this electoral cycle, both Trump and prominent figures in the Republican Party have promoted the false narrative that “millions” of undocumented migrants will vote to favor the Democrats. Additionally, the Republican Party has filed several lawsuits in states like Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Texas to “purge” voter rolls ahead of the elections.
