“Today, Tuesday 15 October 2024, between 12.30 and 14.00 (9.30 – 11.00 GMT), the Israeli enemy fired rockets loaded with internationally banned cluster bombs,” the Lebanese group said.

According to local sources in the country, the impact areas of the cluster shells were Wadi al-Hujayr, Jallet Raj and a wooded area located east of the city of Alman.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), cluster bombs are banned worldwide because they cause immediate and long-term harm to civilians, leaving unexploded remnants that act as landmines for years.

Hezbollah denounced that the use of these weapons by Israel demonstrates “its flagrant disregard for all international covenants, norms and laws, especially in times of war”, as well as its “inability” to advance by land in southern Lebanon, where earlier this month he started an invasion.

“We appeal to the competent authorities of Lebanon and international humanitarian and human rights organizations to condemn this heinous crime with all standards, especially because of its far-reaching negative effects on civilians.”, added the movement in the note.

Organisations such as HRW and the Lebanese authorities have previously denounced the use of proscribed weapons by Israel, including white phosphorus, a substance which when exposed to oxygen causes a chemical reaction capable of causing severe burns that can reach the bone.
