Safi al-Din was the chairman of the organization’s executive council and was also considered to be the alleged successor of the martyred leader of the Shiite group, Hassan Nasrallah.

Sayyed Safi al-Din devoted his life to the service of Hizbollah and its environment. For many years he led the Executive Council, its various institutions and units and worked in various fields related to the tasks of the resistance, reported the pan-Arab network Al Mayadeen.

The leader died during the bombing of the occupation forces in early October in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, while several leaders of the group were holding a meeting.

Israeli media report that, in the attack, Zionist planes threw 73 tons of explosives on the underground bunker where Hassan Nasrallah’s cousin, Sayyed Hashem Safi al-Din, was probably staying.

Hezbollah lamented the death of the Shia leader Safi al-Din and referred to him as his «highest and most precious martyr».

«His Eminence Mr. Hashem Safi al-Din devoted most of his life to the service of Hezbollah and the Islamic Resistance and its community. During the many years of his honorable life, he led with responsibility and ability the Executive Council and its various institutions and agencies», the group reported on Wednesday.
