On Thursday, January 30, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, will carry out the release of three Israeli citizens as part of a hostage exchange established in the first phase of a ceasefire agreement.
Abu Obeida, the military spokesperson for the Brigades, confirmed that those to be released are Arbal Yehud and Agam Berger, two women aged 29 and 21 respectively, and Gadi Moshe Moses, an 80-year-old man.
The exchange takes place in a delicate context, where in return for these three hostages, Israel will release 110 Palestinian prisoners currently held in Israeli jails. Among these prisoners are 30 minors and several individuals serving long sentences, with 32 Palestinians serving lengthy prison terms.
In their statement, the Al-Qassam Brigades expressed gratitude to Egypt and Jordan for their support in the Palestinian struggle and for rejecting proposals by former President Donald Trump, which sought to relocate Palestinians to these countries.
The movement also celebrated the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of what they consider to be ethnic cleansing attempts by Israel.
To date, two rounds of releases have been carried out under the agreement, where seven Israeli women were exchanged for 290 Palestinian citizens. However, many of the latter have been forced into exile after their release.
This exchange reflects the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the persistent tensions between both parties. The situation remains volatile, and any progress toward lasting peace appears to depend on the political will and commitment of both parties to address the deep roots of the conflict.
