Food Crisis in Gaza: WFP Warns of Humanitarian Colapse

The situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming increasingly dire, with the local Ministry of Health reporting a rise in the number of victims of the Israeli aggression, which now stands at 48,446 martyrs and 111,852 injured since the conflict began on October 7, 2023.

This tragic increase follows the arrival of six new bodies at hospitals in the enclave over the past 48 hours, two of which were recovered from the rubble and four of which are recent casualties.

The report also highlights that many bodies remain unidentified under the rubble. However, civil defense teams are facing significant challenges in accessing them due to ongoing Israeli bombardments and a lack of adequate equipment.

Local activists and organizations have accused Israeli authorities of blocking the entry of essential machinery needed for body recovery, which they consider a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement.

The humanitarian crisis is further exacerbated by warnings from the World Food Programme (WFP), which has stated that food supplies in Gaza are extremely limited.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the humanitarian agency revealed that its current provisions are only sufficient to operate bakeries and kitchens for less than two weeks.

Given this critical situation, the WFP has indicated that it may be necessary to reduce the size of food rations to try to reach as many Gazans as possible amid the conflict.

The combination of a high number of casualties and food shortages underscores the urgent need for effective humanitarian intervention and the restoration of a lasting ceasefire in the region.

The international community is watching with growing concern as the conflict escalates and its devastating consequences for the civilian population in Gaza continue to unfold.
