On Monday, hundreds of people gathered in the Omayyad Square in Damascus to demand information and the release of detained Syrian soldiers. The demonstration was led by family members of former military personnel from the Syrian Army, who denounced the lack of transparency and justice in processes related to prisoners.

During the event, family members emphasized that the soldiers had served their country with honor and that many were victims of crossfire situations in which they had no active participation. They underscored that their sons and brothers were following military orders and were not involved in political matters.
The protesters called on the new Syrian administration to show clemency and facilitate the reintegration of these soldiers into society.
Additionally, they urged international organizations to intervene immediately to ensure humane treatment, fearing that without internal support, authorities would ignore their demands.
This marks the first organized action by families of detained soldiers, who argue that their loved ones have been unjustly punished. According to some media reports, nearly 9,000 Syrian soldiers have been detained, including about 2,000 who were returned from Iraq.
Many prisoners were arrested at checkpoints controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or during security raids, later being transferred to prisons such as those in Adra, Hama, and Harim in rural Idlib.
For its part, the Military Operations Directorate has refused to disclose the identity and status of the prisoners, declining to publish official lists and prohibiting family members from any communication with them. This stance contradicts statements made by interim government head Ahmed al-Sharaa regarding governmental interest in promoting peace and coexistence.
