Hundreds of Somalis gathered at the Peace Garden in Mogadishu to express their support for the Palestinian people, in a powerful demonstration that underscores the growing regional opposition to recent policies affecting Gaza.

Waving Palestinian flags and holding banners with slogans such as “Gaza is not for sale” and “Somalis stand with Palestine,” the participants condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that residents of Gaza should relocate to countries like Egypt and Jordan.

One of the protesters, Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed, voiced the collective sentiment, stating, “Our brothers in Palestine have faced ongoing suffering, and for President Trump to suggest that Gazans should move elsewhere is a complete trap. Trump aims to entrap Muslims in Gaza, and that is why we are here; we will not accept this.”

The demonstration highlights the rising discontent with Trump’s stance on Gaza and the widespread calls for global support for Palestinians. Sheikh Abdi Hayyi, one of the protest organizers, remarked, “Trump’s decision is ironic and undermines justice. It aligns with aggressors and infringes on the rights of those who have fought for independence for many years. Instead of backing their struggle for freedom, he opposes them and supports their enemy, telling them to abandon their land. This is something we cannot accept, and as Somalis, we see this as a grave injustice.”

The rally in Mogadishu serves as a testament to the solidarity felt by the Somali people towards Palestinians and their cause. It also reflects the broader regional and international discontent with the policies that threaten the rights and lives of Gazans.

Adding to the tension, President Trump has recently enacted an executive order allowing economic and travel sanctions against individuals involved in International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations concerning U.S. citizens or allies, including Israel.

This demonstration is a vivid example of the unwavering support for Palestinian rights and the condemnation of actions seen as unjust and detrimental to their struggle for independence and peace.
