IAEA Reports That There Is No Nuclear Danger From Fire and Explosions in Zaporizhia

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that despite observing dense black smoke and multiple explosions at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, under Russian occupation, there is no danger to nuclear safety.

An IAEA team stationed at the plant was informed by the Russian authorities controlling the facility of a “suspected drone attack” that would have targeted one of the cooling towers of the plant.
Despite the incident, “no impact on nuclear safety has been reported,” says an IAEA social media post.
The fire that broke out on Sunday at one of the facilities of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia has been located, the authorities reported, the plant, controlled by Russian forces since the start of the war in Ukraine.
“The fire in the area where the cooling towers of the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant are located, which was declared as a result of the bombing by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been located and there is no threat of further fires”, says a message on the Telegram channel of the nuclear power plant.
“As a result of a bombing of the city of Energodar (home to the nuclear plant) a fire broke out in one component of the cooling system of the Zaporiyia atomic power plant,” wrote Evgeny Balitsky, governor of the Zaporizhia region on his Telegram channel.
Previously, the governor of the region accused Kiev of bombing the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and asked the population to remain calm because the situation was “under control,” he said.
