These far-right politicians plan to enter Venezuela to symbolically sabotage President Maduro’s inauguration on January 10.

On Tuesday, the Venezuelan National Assembly declared several Latin American former presidents associated with the so-called IDEA group as “persona non grata.”

Currently operating from Panama, this far-right organization plans to enter Venezuela on January 10, coinciding with President Nicolas Maduro’s inauguration for the 2025–2031 term. IDEA aims to support an “interim government” in Venezuela, which the National Assembly characterized as interference with the sovereignty of the Bolivarian nation.

The parliamentary resolution includes former presidents Andres Pastrana (Colombia), Mario Abdo (Paraguay), Mireya Moscoso (Panama), Felipe Calderon (Mexico), Vicente Fox (Mexico), Ernesto Perez (Panama), Jorge Quiroga (Bolivia), Laura Chinchilla (Costa Rica), and Jamil Mahuad (Ecuador).

Jorge Rodriguez, the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, presented a photograph showing links between drug trafficking and transnational far-right forces. Among those implicated was Colombia’s former president Pastrana, who was also tied to the Pandora Papers scandal.

“He owns a Panamanian company established in 2016, an offshore entity whose shareholder is another Colombian company controlling a U.S. bank account used for money laundering,” he stated.

Rodriguez also accused Paraguay’s former president Mario Abdo of failing to pay US$300 million owed to Venezuela for oil sales. “Instead of settling his debt, Abdo sought every possible way to bribe Juan Guaido to claim part of those US$300 million,” he asserted and further accused former Mexican president Felipe Calderon of maintaining ties to organized crime and drug trafficking.

“The truth emerges as soon as you scratch the surface of the media’s lies. There is an unbreakable alliance between far-right forces and drug trafficking,” Rodriguez said, emphasizing that transnational media rarely expose the corruption of U.S.-backed politicians.

“Meanwhile, the Venezuelan far right and their international allies constantly boast about their supposed war on drugs and anti-narcotics measures,” he added.

Rodriguez also pointed out that Ecuador has become an international drug trafficking haven, warning that drug cartels use the Andean country’s banking system for money laundering. “The most prominent Colombian drug cartels have relocated to Ecuador,” he noted.

Rodriguez reminded that Venezuelan law would be fully enforced against any foreigner entering the country without invitation. “They will be treated as invaders,” he warned.

For this reason, he urged the Bolivarian National Armed Forces to treat far-right former presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and all members of the IDEA group as invaders and arrest them if they attempt to enter Venezuela on January 10.
