The winners of the latest track and field event, Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Tigst Assefa (Ethiopia) and Hellen Obiri (Kenya), were awarded during the ceremony.
In front of more than 70,000 people who gathered at the Stade de France, in the French capital, the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place this Sunday and welcomed the match agreed for four years from now in the American city of Los Angeles.

The Paris Coliseum, the stage for field and track competitions, hosted a show preceded by the award of the last competition in the athletics schedule, the women’s marathon, which highlighted the historic march of women at Versailles in 1789, in the midst of the French Revolution.
Sports authorities awarded the marathon medal winners Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Tigst Assefa (Ethiopia) and Hellen Obiri (Kenya) in a competition with medalists from the USA, China and Japan.
They also congratulated the more than 45,000 volunteers who were involved in organizing the games.
During the section dedicated to protocol speeches, Cuban wrestler MijaĂn LĂłpez, five-time Olympic champion in the same discipline (since Beijing 2008), came on stage representing Latin America and the Caribbean.
Not alone: French judoka Teddy Riner (five gold and two bronze medals) and Australian swimmer Emma McKeon (six gold, three silver and five bronze medals) also did so, representing Europe and Australia-Oceania respectively.
The chairman of the organizing committee for the games, Tony Estanguet, acknowledged the efforts made by France and called for the opening of the Paralympic Games on 28 August, which will last until 8 September.
The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, stressed the contribution of the competition to a culture of peace.
The flag of Paris 2024 was presented by the Parisian mayor, Ana MarĂa Hidalgo, and her Los Angeles counterpart, Karen Bass, who took to the podium in the company of the award-winning American gymnast Simone Biles.
Returning to Latin America and the Caribbean, the region had a prominent participation in these games, with Brazil leading with 20 medals (3 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze), followed by Cuba (9 medals, 2, 1 and 6) and Ecuador (5 medals, 1, 2 and 2).
Next up came Argentina (3, with 1, 1 and 1), Chile (2, 1 and 1), the Dominican Republic (with 3, 1 and 2), Guatemala (with 2, 1 and 1), Mexico (5, with three silver and two bronze), Colombia (4, with three silver and one bronze), Puerto Rico (with two bronze) and Peru (one bronze).
As is customary, the national anthem of Greece was sung and its national flag raised in recognition of that nation, which hosted the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896.
Previously, the French swimmer LĂ©on Marchand, who won four gold and one bronze medal during these JJ.OO. Picked up the Olympic flame in the gardens of Les Tuileries and moved it to the stadium.
The ceremony was attended by, among others, French President Emmanuel Macron and Douglas Emhoff, husband of US Vice President and presidential aspirant Kamala Harris.
Similarly, celebrities made an appearance as it was, the American actor Tom Cruise, who picked up the Olympic flag and on an imaginary trip, sort of episode of «Mission Impossible», moved it to Los Angeles, from where the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dog delighted the audience.
