Heavy rains make it difficult to rescue after landslides hit the mountainous Wayanad district while people slept.
At least 93 people have died and hundreds are still trapped by heavy rains and flooding in the state of Kerala, in southern India, a government source said on Tuesday while the rescue efforts continue.

«Many bodies have not yet been identified,» he said, adding that many more people were still trapped under the rubble and it is feared that the death toll will continue to rise.
A state government official involved in the rescue efforts said that the rescue work continues, although heavy rains are causing disruption.
The local administration, the police, the rescue teams, Doctors, medical teams and other departments of the state government have set out to rescue people from the rubble and bring them quickly to hospital.
Avalanches hit small villages in the Wayanad state of Kerala on Tuesday morning and destroyed many houses and a bridge, although the authorities had not yet determined the full scale of the disaster.
Rescuers worked to pull people out of the mud and rubble, but roadblocks and unstable terrain made their efforts difficult.
