According to a statement from the Kremlin press service, broadcast through the social network Telegram, the Russian head of state and the Indian head of government «they will discuss the perspectives of a greater development of the traditionally friendly Russian-Indian relations, as well as the current topics of the international and regional agenda».

According to Russian media, this is Modi’s first visit to Moscow after he was sworn in for a third term at the head of the Executive.

Days ago, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed the importance of Modi’s visit. He recalled that both nations have a joint participation in the integration processes, as evidenced by their membership of the Brics group (initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and since last January incorporated Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates).

The spokesman appreciated that regional and global security issues, as well as bilateral trade and economic interaction always occupy a prominent place in the dialogue agenda of both nations.

India and the former Soviet Union established diplomatic relations in 1947, months after the independence of the South Asian nation (15 August 1947).

Between January and October 2023, the turnover between the two countries exceeded the historical record of 54.7 billion dollars. In the first quarter of 2024, it reached a record $17.5 billion.
