“The escalation of terrorism seeks to divide Syria and undermine its independence. It is part of a broader plan designed by the United States and the Zionist regime to disrupt stability in our region,” said al-Assad, who expressed gratitude for Iran’s continued support during critical times for his country.
“Preserving Syria’s sovereignty is key to ensuring stability in the Middle East. Iran is ready to provide all necessary assistance to defeat terrorism and thwart Zionist conspiracies,” said Pezeshkian, who dispatched Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi to Damascus.
During his visit to the Syrian capital, Araqchi emphasized Tehran’s “steadfast support” for the Syrian government and condemned the recent terrorist offensive led by extremist groups such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
“The enemy uses terrorist groups as tools to sow insecurity and discord. As in the past, Syria will overcome these conspiracies through the strength of its people and its army,” Araqchi stated before beginning meetings with Syrian officials.
In recent days, the Syrian Army has faced a surprise offensive in Aleppo and Idlib. This resurgence of terrorist activity has raised concerns across the region, prompting diplomatic and military responses to curb its advance.
Pezeshkian also highlighted the importance of cohesion among Islamic countries in combating the spread of terrorism. During a conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Iranian president stressed that these attacks threaten not only Syria but also regional stability.
“The recent movements aim to erode the unity of our region. Only by working together can we thwart Zionist objectives and ensure the security of our nations,” Pezeshkian stated.
For his part, al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s commitment to fighting terrorism and emphasized the need for greater regional collaboration to restore stability in Syria.
