The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, who is in Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS summit, called for the formation of the security commission of that platform.

According to Akbar, the BRICS group with its considerably good characteristics in terms of population, economy and power could be a pioneer in forming a new security structure on the international scene to help global security in the future.

He also called for a specific security structure to be established for the bloc under the name of «BRICS Security Commission».

Ahmadian said the commission could define mechanisms for cooperation among members in areas such as international peace and security to address common threats such as drugs, terrorism, extremism, the abuse of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum, satellites, electromagnetic, marine insecurity, human smuggling and cyber threats.

In the same order, Iran proposed to BRICS member countries to take the Internet out of the monopoly of Western countries.

According to him, Western countries, especially the US, monopolize the Internet, crucial equipment and some applications, which poses a huge challenge in terms of technology and cybersecurity. We must find a solution to this problem, he urged.

«One of the contemporary international security challenges is cybersecurity. This sphere is being exploited by terrorist groups. Iran warns that cyber terrorism will become one of the threats to all in the future, and cooperation of BRICS member countries and other countries is necessary to solve this problem,» he said.
