India and Pakistan are Iran’s two sister neighbors, united by centuries-old cultural ties, said FM Araqchi.
On Friday, Iran offered to mediate between India and Pakistan, countries embroiled in a new escalation of tensions following an attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 26 people and for which New Delhi blames Islamabad.

“Tehran is ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to forge greater understanding in these difficult times,” said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
The Iranian minister affirmed that India and Pakistan are Iran’s two sister neighbors, united by centuries-old cultural ties, and are also a priority for Tehran. Araqchi shared verses by the Persian poet Saadi that refer to human beings as members of a whole.
India has accused Pakistan of supporting the perpetrators of this week’s attack and has retaliated by expelling diplomats, closing the land border, canceling visas, and, for the first time, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960.
Pakistan responded with reciprocal measures, including closing its airspace to Indian airlines, expelling defense advisers, suspending visas for Indian citizens, and halting all bilateral agreements.
