The latest bombings came as the Israeli political-security cabinet is expected to discuss a ceasefire agreement.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army carried out several intense bombing raids on a densely populated area, Al-Nuwairi, in central Beirut. The attack left at least one dead and a dozen injured.

“Israeli aggression has intensified as negotiations approach serious stages. It is a well-known tactic to put pressure on the opposing side in order to obtain concessions,” warned Elias Bou Saab, the vice-president of the Lebanese parliament.
After having already heavily bombed the surroundings of the Lebanese capital, Israel also issued evacuation orders for the cities of Tyre and Nabatiye in the south of the country.
Last week, US mediator Amos Hochstein travelled to Lebanon and Israel to take part in negotiations for a truce. However, the incessant Israeli attacks against the Lebanese population are putting any peace attempt at risk. The latest bombings came as the Israeli political-security cabinet is expected to discuss and approve a ceasefire agreement on Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
On Monday, Bou Saab said a ceasefire deal with Israel had become close after a meeting of the Parliament Bureau. “We are approaching the ceasefire moment. This week or in the next 10 days, there will be a decisive position,” he said, but he also noted that the final decision for a ceasefire will be made according to developments in the war field.
“While there is hope, nothing is certain when dealing with someone like Netanyahu,” the deputy speaker of the Lebanese parliament said, calling on the press to focus only on the “facts on the ground.”
Since the offensive against Gaza began in October 2023, Israeli occupation forces have killed at least 3,768 Lebanese and injured 15,699 people in this Middle Eastern country.
