The Israeli army today carried out the demolition of a United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) office in the Nur Shams camp, located east of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank.

Nihad al-Shawish, head of the camp’s service committee, confirmed to Xinhua that Israeli bulldozers destroyed the office, which was situated in the heart of the camp.

Al-Shawish pointed out that Nur Shams is home to two UNRWA schools, one for girls and the other for boys, which provide education to more than 1,500 students.

In addition, the camp has a health center that provides basic medical services such as reproductive, neonatal, and pediatric care, as well as vaccinations and medical check-ups. This center also includes a dental clinic, all operated by UNRWA.

It should be noted that last Monday, the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, passed a law banning UNRWA operations in Israel, which has intensified tensions surrounding the situation of Palestinian refugees.

The demolition has raised concerns about the impact on the essential services UNRWA provides to the refugee community in the camp and has generated calls for the international community to take action regarding this situation.
