The Gaza Health Ministry reported that since the offensive began on October 7, 2023, more journalists have been killed than in both World Wars, the U.S. Civil War, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, the Yugoslav Wars, and the Afghanistan War (2001–2021) combined.

The latest figures, released by the Ministry on Monday, April 7, confirm at least 256 journalists killed. The number rose after an Israeli airstrike targeted a journalists’ tent near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis.

The Gaza Government Media Office has repeatedly condemned what it calls the “deliberate killing of Palestinian journalists” by Israeli occupation forces.

They have urged the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and global press organizations to denounce these systematic crimes against media professionals in the enclave.

They also criticized the West’s complicit silence: “The lack of global outrage over the systematic killing of journalists in Gaza shows Palestinian lives do not matter.” They emphasized the urgent need for international action to stop what they describe as a strategy to silence reporting on Israeli crimes.

Beyond journalist deaths, Israeli bombings have killed at least 50,700 people so far, mostly women and children.
