As a result of this incident, the Israeli war crimes have taken on new dimensions: over the past year, Zionist forces have killed 173 health workers, injured 277 medical team members, and attacked 243 health vehicles.
The Lebanese Health Ministry condemned “the ongoing attacks by occupation forces against ambulance personnel” and called on the international community to “put an end to this series of war crimes.”
Israel has carried out attacks on hospitals and medical personnel in Lebanon, arguing that its bombings are aimed at the Shiite militia Hezbollah.
On October 3, an Israeli bombing struck a civil defense center in Beirut, and a day later, 14 paramedics were killed in another attack on an ambulance and hospital in southern Lebanon.
International human rights organizations have repeatedly denounced the Israeli attacks on Lebanese medical personnel and healthcare facilities as illegal and constituting war crimes. Since October 8, 2023, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in over 2,800 deaths and 13,000 injuries.
On Thursday, the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported that the Israeli occupation forces detained Mohammed Obeid, an MSF orthopedic surgeon, who was working at Kamal Adwan hospital in north Gaza.
“We are extremely alarmed by the detention of our colleague. We call for the safety and the protection of our colleague, and for all medical staff in Gaza who work under impossible conditions and are facing horrific violence as they try to provide care,” MSF stated.
