Since the Israeli offensive against Gaza began, only one-week truce agreement was reached in November 2023.
On Thursday, one day before the possible start of ceasefire talks in Doha, Israeli occupation forces launched air strikes on 40 sites across the Gaza Strip.

“At least 70 Palestinians were confirmed killed as a result of the attacks on Thursday, with the real number expected to be much higher,” the Al Jazeera outlet reported.
On Friday, an Israeli delegation led by the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations (Mossad), the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), and the Israeli Army will hold talks for a ceasefire in Doha.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the delegation’s trip to Qatar to resume dialogue with the conflict mediators, namely, Qatar, the United States, and Egypt.
Basem Naim, a member of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), confirmed that their delegation would arrive in the Qatari capital today to give new momentum to the negotiations.
After ceasefire talks resumed in early December, the dialogue broke down again a week ago. Hamas accused Netanyahu of seeking to impose new conditions when the foundation for a new agreement was already solid.
Negotiations for a ceasefire are immediately contingent on the release of hostages. On October 7, 2023, Palestinian militias took 251 Israeli hostages, 96 of whom are still alive within the Gaza Strip.
Since the Israeli offensive against Gaza began, Israel and Hamas have only managed to reach a one-week truce agreement at the end of November 2023, during which 105 hostages were exchanged for 240 Palestinian prisoners.
So far, the Israeli occupation army has rescued eight hostages alive and recovered the bodies of 38, while Hamas released four women on humanitarian grounds a few weeks after the October attack.
