In a statement issued this Friday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli army will not withdraw completely from southern Lebanon at the end of the 60-day deadline stipulated in the recent ceasefire agreement.
The statement stresses that the original agreement envisioned a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, but this will depend on the effective deployment of the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon and the full implementation of the agreement.
The prime minister’s office emphasized that the condition for Israeli withdrawal is that Hezbollah withdraw beyond the Litani River, adding uncertainty to the situation.
