They are part of the total of 183 Palestinian prisoners that Israel plans to release this Saturday, as part of the fifth exchange of hostages for prisoners with Hamas corresponding to the first phase of the ceasefire.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners Society, seven of those released this Saturday were taken to hospitals upon arriving in Ramallah.
“All the prisoners who were released today need medical attention, treatment, and examinations as a result of the brutality they have been subjected to in recent months,” stated the director of the organization, Abdullah al-Zaghari.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which facilitates the exchange process, requested that future exchanges be held in private.
“The ICRC is increasingly concerned about the conditions under which release operations take place. We strongly urge all parties, including mediators, to take responsibility to ensure that future releases are conducted in a dignified and private manner,” the organization stated upon completing the fifth operation.
Israeli forces declared a military zone near the Ofer prison, blocking families who hoped to welcome released prisoners and using live ammunition and tear gas to disperse them.
Despite the restrictions, hundreds of Palestinians gathered at the Mahmoud Darwish Museum in Ramallah to celebrate liberation, waving Palestinian flags.
This event represents a significant step forward in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, generating strong emotions among families and supporters celebrating the return of their loved ones.
