On Sunday, Foreign Ministers Badr Abdelatty (Egypt) and Sergey Lavrov (Russia) discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Marwan Al-Hams from the Gaza-based health authorities said that the bodies of the eleven people, including a boy and a girl, were brought to Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, adding that field hospitals in Mawasi also treated nine others injured by the airstrike.

A security source and eyewitnesses said that the Israeli airstrike ignited flames in the densely packed tents. The Mawasi area, stretching along the Mediterranean coast from western Rafah to the outskirts of Nuseirat, is designated by the Israeli army as a safe zone for Gaza residents.

Since Israel launched a large-scale offensive on October 7, 2023, at least 45,259 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.

The text reads: “Consequences of the occupation army’s shelling of tents in Mawasi, Khan Yunis, which resulted in the deaths of 11 displaced persons.”

On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held a phone talk to discuss the developments in Syria and the situation in the Gaza Strip.

The two top diplomats highlighted the necessity for international collaboration to support Syria, and the significance to respect its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, the statement said, calling for coordinated efforts among all active parties to assist Syria in navigating its current transitional phase.

Abdelatty and Lavrov stressed that any support provided must prioritize the interests of all Syrian people, across all spectrums and components of society. This support, they continued, should facilitate a comprehensive, Syrian-led political process aimed at restoring stability and preserving the security, future, and capabilities of the Syrian people.

Discussing the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts underway to secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Strip.
