Two people have died and several others have been injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes targeting a van that was traveling in the suburbs of Hermel, eastern Lebanon, according to the National News Agency of the Arab nation.

This incident occurred within the context of a ceasefire process between the Israeli entity and the Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas.

According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the airstrike targeted Muhammad Mahdi Ali Shaheen, the main arms coordinator for Hezbollah, the Lebanese Islamic Resistance Movement. The IDF claimed that he was the objective of this aggression.

Following this incident, another Israeli airstrike hit a residential area in the village of Deir Qanoun al-Naher in southern Lebanon. As of now, the number of potential casualties or the extent of damage caused in that area remains unknown.

These operations are part of ongoing attacks carried out almost daily by Israeli occupation forces against Lebanese territory, undermining the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since January 19. This includes bombings across the country.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s new Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has called for an Israeli withdrawal and promised residents of border villages a safe return to their homes and reconstruction efforts. He made these statements during a tour of areas near the border with Israel that suffered significant destruction due to clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

“This is the first day of real work for the government. We salute the army and its martyrs,” Salam stated in the southern port city of Tyre during an exchange with residents from the border village of Dheira.

Nawaf Salam’s visit comes two days after his government secured a vote of confidence in Parliament, where members of Hezbollah’s bloc supported the political declaration of the new administration while asserting that only the national army has the right to defend the country in times of war.

Earlier in February, Israel withdrew its troops from much of the border area; however, it left five observation posts within Lebanon, which Lebanese officials have described as a violation of a ceasefire negotiated by the United States that came into effect on November 27 last year.
