‘The Zionists will pay a high price’, the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said.

On Sunday, Iran strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Syria following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad and warned that the Israelis will be defeated in Syrian territory.

“The events in Syria are an unfortunate lesson for us. We see foreign powers acting like hungry wolves in Syria, and the Zionists are taking over the south, north and east of the country, and we will not allow Muslims to be insulted,” declared the Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Gen. Hossein Salami, during a conference in Tehran about the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.

“The Zionists will pay a heavy price and will be buried in this land, but it will require our time, patience and great effort,” he added.

Condemning Israeli actions in Syria, particularly in areas near Damascus and Quneitra, Salami stated that the growing presence of the Zionists in these territories is “unbearable” for the region.

Additionally, he reiterated the statements made by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who said on Wednesday that Syrian youth would eventually liberate the occupied territories.

Khamenei asserted that there is “no doubt” that the fall of al-Assad “is the result of a joint U.S.-Israeli plan,” though he assured that this development would not weaken Iran or the anti-Israeli alliance, the ‘Axis of Resistance,’ led by Tehran and comprised of the Palestinians of Hamas, the Lebanese group Hezbollah, the Yemeni Houthis, Iraqi militias, and the government of the ousted Syrian president.

Previously, however, Iranian authorities had previously acknowledged that the overthrow of al-Assad represents a setback for the Axis of Resistance, which has been responding to the aggressions of the Israeli occupation forces since the Zionist state began its offensive against Gaza in October 2023.

Iran was one of al-Assad’s main allies, providing him with military and economic support over the years, while Damascus facilitated Tehran’s access to Lebanon’s Shiite group Hezbollah.
