The Israeli occupation army has deployed a network of strategic military positions in the demilitarized zone between Syria and the occupied Palestinian territories, stretching from Mount Hermon in the north to Kudna Hill in the south, near the triple border with Jordan.

According to local media reports, this move aims to contain a potential spillover of the Syrian conflict into Israeli settlements, following the power vacuum created by the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s government.

Strategic Locations and Long-term Presence

The new military bases are situated in strategic areas including Syrian Mount Hermon, Al-Hadr, Jabbata Al-Khashab, Al-Hamidiya, Quneitra, Al-Qutmiya, and Kudna. Since December 2024, Israeli forces have been reorganizing the area to ensure a prolonged presence, with no set timeline for withdrawal.

Construction and Local Resistance

Syrian media reported that the occupation forces have also begun building a new observation post in Jabbata Al-Khashab, in northern Quneitra, and have initiated a population census in surrounding villages, allegedly to address residents’ needs and provide aid. However, local inhabitants have rejected any interaction with the soldiers and refused assistance.

Logistics and Long-term Strategy

The Israeli army has constructed logistics complexes featuring thermal accommodations, medical clinics, heating systems, electric generators, and sanitary facilities, in coordination with the Northern Command and the military technology and logistics corps. These installations are designed to withstand the extreme weather conditions of the Golan Heights, leading analysts to suggest that the construction of permanent bases indicates a long-term territorial control strategy.

This strategic move could alter the balance of power in the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied since 1967 and annexed in 1981, an action not recognized by the international community.
