«It is not coercion, it is cowardice», declared Maduro, comparing his own situation to facing threats and sanctions from imperialism and its satellites.
«I could say to Mr González Urrutia, to you, who is there in Madrid: “Who is more coerced in this, you are drinking a whisky, signing a letter where you capitulate or Nicolas Maduro subjected to a thousand threats, threatened here, threatened there, thousand sanctions, persecuted? And you saw me cower, thinking of taking a step back, leaving the people? Did you see me in that wave?”» he argued.
Maduro also urged González Urrutia to reconsider and acknowledge that he has not been coerced.
So do not be cowardly, you recognize your moral lowliness, your cowardice was not coercion, it was cowardice, that’s simple. And that same day, the very minute I was a fascist lady saying it was coercion, he published a letter in his ex account saying: “I had no coercion at the embassy in Madrid”», he pointed out.
For his part, the deputy and president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, offered details on the departure of Urrutia from the country, indicating that Urrutia was in a hurry to leave Venezuela due to pressure from the opposition, especially María Corina Machado, stating that Urrutia planned to inform Machado of his departure «from the flight ladder».
«But since Saturday, believing that he is leaving, calls María Corina Machado by phone, and it is when she learns that he is going to Spain. Then she yells at him, she cries out, we know it, she says a lot of things to him and he says: “the decision is made”, and she blocks her phone, cancels the call. That’s why he was so in a hurry that night, because that night we’re going to talk to him and that’s where he says: “This has to be solved today”», he reported.
Rodríguez also revealed that González Urrutia had participated in a dinner in Madrid, at the home of Miguel Enrique Otero, along with figures from the Venezuelan opposition and Spanish politicians, and that at this meeting Urrutia had sought funding for «to be independent from Maria Corina Machado».
The main reason for that meeting was to pass the racket, pass the basket, hammer the Spanish businessmen to follow their function of toppling the legitimate government of Venezuela, and you said -because we know every thing that Mr González Urrutia said: “I need to be independent of Maria Corina Machado, because as long as I depend on her resources I will also depend on her cries”. You said it at that meeting in the home of Miguel Enrique Otero and began to see the possibility of raising 10 million dollars that will surely be used for your splendid retirement on the Golden Mile of Salamanca. It’s a matter of days, it’s a matter of weeks that we will see Mr González Urrutia with the money he can raise to unsuspecting Spanish businessmen», stressed Rodríguez.
During his speech he also pointed out that it has become evident «the impressive compulsion of Mr Edmundo González Urrutia to lie in a blatant way».
