Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, calified this achievement an “excellent start to the year,” although it was tempered by low numbers in the second quarter due to Hurricane Beryl last july.
Reports say Jamaica was trending very strongly in June, too — with tickets for international arrivals up 5 percent in the second half of June, according to data provided to Caribbean Journal by analytics firm ForwardKeys.
Also in June the island showed a very positive trend, with an increase of 5% in international arrivals bookings in the second half of the month. However, in the period prior to Beryl and after the storm, international arrivals bookings fell by 24 per cent between 30 June and 23 July.
Since Beryl pass Jamaica has seen a rapid recovery to 2023 levels, suggesting that the initial impact of the hurricane was short-lived. The confidence of travellers “was restored in a matter of days”.
During this year’s first quarter, the island’s tourism growth was driven by a total of 781,081 overnight visitors, which represents an increase of 6.4% compared to last year, Caribbean News said.
In addition, Jamaica Tourist Board Director Donovan White said the island is “confidence the tourism experience we deliver will continue carrying us forward on the path towards success,”
