Jamaican government commits to strengthening border security

The government is implementing a robust strategy through policy development, legislative measures, and substantial investment in resources to fortify ministries, departments, and agencies directly involved in security operations. 

In a significant move to strengthen national security, Jamaica’s Deputy Prime Minister and Head of National Security, Horace Chang, today reinforced the government’s dedication to improving border security.

Chang conveyed the vigilant stance of the island’s top political authority in endorsing initiatives aimed at protecting the nation’s borders more effectively during the Overseas Security Advisory Council’s Aviation Security conference.

The government is implementing a robust strategy through policy development, legislative measures, and substantial investment in resources to fortify ministries, departments, and agencies directly involved in security operations. 

This comprehensive approach underscores security as a cornerstone of government policy, with significant resources being channeled into enhancing the operational capabilities of both the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Chang underlined at the event the dual importance of the country as a major transshipment hub and a popular tourist destination while considering these strategic investments are crucial to effectively manage threats.

The aviation security conference serves as a platform to share knowledge and best practices among local and international law enforcement and industry stakeholders.
