Jordan’s King Abdullah II announced on Tuesday that his country will accept 2,000 children from Gaza who are currently undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses. The statement was made during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House’s Oval Office.

Speaking to the press at the start of their meeting, King Abdullah emphasized that Jordan will receive the children “as soon as possible” to ensure they receive necessary medical care.

Jordan and Egypt Reject Trump’s Resettlement Plan

The announcement comes as Trump continues to push for Jordan and Egypt to permanently resettle Palestinian refugees, as part of his broader plan for U.S. control over Gaza’s reconstruction. Trump envisions turning the war-ravaged enclave into a luxurious tourist destination, calling it “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

However, both Jordan and Egypt have firmly rejected the proposal. King Abdullah warned last week that Jordan will oppose “any attempt” to alter the legal status of Palestinian territories or forcefully displace its population. He reiterated his support for a two-state solution, ensuring a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.

Arab League to Hold Emergency Summit on February 27

Trump’s proposal has sparked outrage across the Arab world, prompting the Arab League to schedule an emergency summit in Cairo on February 27. Leaders are expected to adopt a unified stance against forced Palestinian displacement, reinforcing their commitment to Palestinian self-determination.

As tensions rise over Gaza’s future, Jordan’s humanitarian initiative provides a rare moment of agreement between the two leaders, even as broader geopolitical disputes remain unresolved.
