‘Corporations will ensure that the interests of the fossil fuel industry continue to be prioritized,’ the activists said.

On Wednesday, members of the environmental group “Just Stop Oil” painted part of the U.S. Embassy building in London orange in protest against Donald Trump’s arrival at the White House.

Dressed in Just Stop Oil T-shirts, the environmentalists used spray paint to cover a wall of the U.S. diplomatic headquarters in the London neighborhood of Vauxhall, protesting that the winner of the election is the corporate power.

“The only real winner of today’s election is the corporate power that controls the major parties in both the U.S. and UK. Regardless of who sits in the White House, corporations and billionaires will ensure that the interests of the fossil fuel industry will continue to be prioritised over the wellbeing of ordinary people,” Just Stop Oil said.

The environmental organization added that only through people’s unity can we “minimize the effects of the ongoing global climate collapse.”

“In Spain, this week, hundreds of bodies are still being pulled out of the mud. This is just a small sign of what is to come if we don’t change course immediately,” it pointed out.

“As long as democracy is hijacked by corporate and billionaire interests, it will not be able to generate the change that people are desperately demanding. This will always leave the door open for false populists like Trump to exploit the discontent felt by many.”

Just Stop Oil emphasizes that people must “organize and make change happen, because by now it should be clear that no political leader is coming to save us.”
