In light of a series of diplomatic and political contacts in the framework of the follow-up to repeated Israeli threats against the nation, the chief executive called to avoid escalation that will complicate the situation and lead to undesirable consequences.

According to the Lebanese government’s X social network account, Mikati condemned in his communications all forms of violence against civilians and reiterated the need for a sustainable ceasefire on the frontlines as the only possible solution to avoid further loss of life and further aggravation of the situation in the area.

At the same time, he stressed that “the Lebanese position is understood by all friends and contacts continue in more than one international, European and Arab direction to protect the country and avert its dangers”.

The Lebanese prime minister’s statement came in the context of growing tension following the impact of an Israeli interceptor missile, launched from the Iron Dome system, which killed 12 people in Majdal Shams and left some 30 injured, some critically.

In this context, UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Israeli attack on a football field in Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan.

The top UN official demanded an immediate cessation of exchanges of fire across the Blue Line separating Israel and Lebanon, in accordance with international law.

At the same time, Guterres called on the parties to urgently recommit to Security Council resolution 1701 and return to a cessation of hostilities.

From the outset, the Lebanese Resistance (Hizbullah) strongly denied responsibility for the attack and claimed it had nothing to do with the incident, contrary to Israeli claims on the matter.
