«The number of fatalities from the Israeli attacks on Lebanon on Wednesday reached 72, with 392 wounded», said the entity, which previously reported 51 dead and 223 injured.

Authorities indicate that there were 22 dead and 48 wounded from air strikes on Maaysara, Joun and Ras Osta in Mount Lebanon; 12 dead and 73 injured from attacks on the Bekaa to the east and 38 killed in attacks on the Nabatieh province to the south.

Israel began the massive attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday morning, which is considered to be the «most violent, widespread and intense» since clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began about a year ago and since the war of July 2006. The number of people killed by the bombing is reported to have exceeded 560.

In the morning hours of Wednesday, the coordinator of the emergency plan of the Lebanese government and Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, announced that the number of martyrs in Lebanon since last October 8 had reached 1,247 and the wounded to 5,278.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than 90,500 people have been forced from their homes in southern Lebanon as a result of the escalation of the conflict with Israel.

The hostilities between Hizbollah and Israel escalated after the Israeli army attacked a residential building in Beirut at the end of last July to assassinate the senior leader of the Lebanese resistance movement, Fuad Shukr.

On 17 and 18 September, a cyber attack against Lebanon exploded electronic devices, including beepers and walkie-talkies, leaving 37 dead and nearly 3,000 injured.

However, Israel’s attacks on Lebanon have caused Hizbollah to inflict significant losses on Israeli forces in northern occupied Palestine.
