In 2019, these far-right politicians asked for military action but things did not turn out as they expected.
In a live broadcast with influencers, Leopoldo Lopez, a far-right politician who remains a fugitive from Venezuelan justice, revealed that Juan Guaido and he requested a military intervention against Venezuela from Washington during Donald Trump’s first administration.

“The fugitive’s statements confirm what has always been denounced: the extremist opposition has not only promoted coups d’etat but has also sought the support of foreign powers for a military invasion against the Venezuelan people,” the outlet Venezuelan News commented.
Lopez also admitted that Guaido directly proposed to Trump the possibility of supporting “all the different initiatives,” exposing his betrayal of national sovereignty. He acknowledged that both of them attempted to mobilize traitorous military personnel in Venezuela.
“Yes, we did it, and we went out with some soldiers. But things did not turn out as we had planned,” Lopez stated, referring to the events of April 30, 2019.
On that date, Lopez, Guaido, and a handful of soldiers attempted a coup against President Nicolas Maduro. However, this coup attempt collapsed within hours. Despite his track record of failures, Lopez continues to promote the destabilization of Venezuela from abroad.
“I do believe we must seek the support of the military. We even have to consider alternatives to the use of force,” he stated, leaving open the possibility for new conspiracies.
While conspiring against Venezuela, Lopez enriched himself with the country’s resources that were seized abroad. Alongside Guaido, Lopez embezzled millions of dollars allocated to the opposition, including funds from USAID. Far from accepting his defeats, Leopoldo Lopez insists on his coup-driven rhetoric.
“I hope that the end of the dictatorship will come through the recognition of electoral victory,” he declared, ignoring the fact that the Bolivarian Revolution has triumphed in multiple legitimate electoral processes.
“Enjoying a life of luxury in Spain, Lopez continues to promote attacks against Venezuela. However, the strength of the Venezuelan people has proven that no foreign conspiracy can overcome the will of the majority,” Venezuelan News concluded.
