Low Participation in the Extreme Right’s Call

The leader of the Venezuelan extreme right, María Corina Machado, currently disqualified from public office, called for a demonstration on Wednesday, August 28 at Avenida Francisco de Miranda in Caracas. However, the response from the public was far from what it had been expected, according to aerial images of the event.

Journalists Luis Hugas and Madelein García shared photos on their social networks that show a low influx of supporters to the rally called by Machado. These images contrast with the opposition leader’s aspirations to show broad popular support.
The low participation in this political event is an indication of the loss of support for the mobilization agenda of Machado, who insists on maintaining a negative matrix especially for the international media, the electoral results endorsed by the Venezuelan state.
In contrast to the modest attendance at the opposition event, demonstrations supporting the government were recorded on the same day. Supporters of the Bolivarian revolution took to the streets to commemorate the first month after the election victory of President Nicolás Maduro in the elections held on July 28.
even though they try to make people believe, with their words alone, that they are doing well and that they have “a robust strategy.”
This contrast in the ability to rally between a part of the opposition and revolutionary forces could be indicative of the current political landscape in Venezuela, where the national government demonstrates its strength with the most mobilized support base.
It is important to note that the political situation in Venezuela remains complex, with challenges for the government of Nicolás Maduro, once the opposition insists on new terrorist attacks, as recently happened against the national electricity system.
